Sahara Adventure |
We rise in the morning and head out from Marrakech, winding through the Atlas Mountains in a scenic route into the Sahara. |
| Later we stretch a little at Ait Haddou Kasbah, a riveting 16th century fortress, the very place where Gladiator and Laurence of Arabia were filmed. |
Merzouga is where the big dunes are. And here you might even take in a Berber wedding. Also, we take you to a home cooked tagine meal where you may feast in a home with a family in the village. After riding along a camel caravan, you sleep in a desert tent. Here you sense the desert calling you into its harsh and powerful, quiet space. |
| We take our time in the desert. It is a great time to relax...and reflect. |

SAHARA PREMIUM TOUR |
| Length of Tour: 4 days and 3 nights. Transportation: Jeep 4x4 |
Day 1: Ouarzazate – Gorge Dadas: We leave early but start with a breakfast; fresh fruit and crepes with coffee or Moroccan, mint tea. We take our time driving in order to stop whenever you like and take in some very stark scenery along with gorgeous palm groves. We view all this through the eyes of those who live in this region and and spend the afternoon at Ait Haddou Kasbah, an idyllic village where many films have been produced, including Diamonds of the Nile and Lawrence of Arabia.. |
Day 2: Tingirt – Merzouga. After breakfast, we journey into the gorges of Tingirt, not to mention valleys lined with date palms and terraces cut into the sides of mountains where pomegranate, almond and olive trees thrive. You view villages among lush palms and journey into Tinjdad. After lunch, you will head directly to Merzouga. You enjoy refreshment and travel by camel for 2-3 hours. You return to your tent. Relax to the sunset and wake into a new sunrise.
Day 3: Afternoon in Merzouga . We take a lazy but adventurous drive into the red sand dunes of Merzouga. It is a time to catch the breezes of the Sahara and to wonder through the local village in N'Kob where the tagine lunch is tasty mutton or chicken flavored with parsley and lemon. If we are lucky we may be able to see a local wedding, though it is more likely we can set up a dinner at a local home so that you might enjoy family life in the village before resting at the riad for the night. |
|
Day 4: Return to Marrakech on the scenic Draa Valley road. We get up early to a fine Berber breakfast with cakes and bsemin with melon slices. We make our way back to Marrakech, taking our time to stop for lunch in Ouarzazate, taking the road through the incredibly beautiful palm choked Draa Valley on our way back into Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains.
